Skin Pigmentation Disorder Also called Hyperpigmentation or Hypopigmentation

Pigmentation means coloring. Skin pigmentation disorders affect the color of your skin. Skin cells give you skin color by making a substance called melanin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy by genetic factor, too much sun exposure or changes of hormones, it also affects melanin production. Some pigmentation disorders affect just your skin but some affect your entire body.

Skin pigmentation disorders that usually found are;

  • Melasma
  • Ephelides, Freckles
  • Nevus of Hori

Skin Cancer

However, the most hazardous skin disorder is skin cancer. There are three common types; Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma and Malignant melanoma. The Malignant melanoma is the most lethal, usually caused by too-much sun exposure, begins in the melanocytes, cell within the epidermis.

Dermatologists believe that melanoma is lethal because people who detected the disease don’t notice the early warning signs. With early detection and proper treatment, melanoma can be cured in a very high rate but once it spread, the prognosis is poor. Melanoma can rapidly spread to lymph system and internal organs.

Melanoma most often develops in a pre-existing mole or tumor, so it is important to check with the specialist if your mole, tumor or pigmented skin is gaining size and irregularities.
